In our experience with these types of tests there has not been ONE single patient who has had their insurance cover the full costs of testing without a significant pass through to patient responsibility in addition to what the patient has already paid for up front as their “copay”—and that’s if they are even covered at all. Even in cases where patients have been advised by their insurance that they will cover the test we have seen many times that ultimately once it is actually billed to the insurance that insurance denies the test and the patient is stuck with an extremely expensive bill. This is why our office chose to pursue a provider account with every lab that we work with in order to pass on our discount to provide significant cost savings to the patient. Providers are typically offered a discount as we pay the lab up front without any administrative burden but often when labs bill insurance companies they bill at an inflated rate to cover the administrative costs of having to deal with insurance.
